OCA Móvel

Mobile Art Space | International Competition - 2nd Prize

Oca-Mobi is not a regular building, or even a museum. It is a system of assembly of parts, which are able to compose different forms, in different sizes. The project is formed by a temporary pavilion-structure, which is able to house several usages, while, at the same time, it directly intervenes in the way people see the space of the city where it is installed.

CONCEPTS

This pavilion should be able to be impacted by the place where it might grow in sense. We understand that its mobile feature infuses care to the risks of triviality; therefore its mobility and its chameleon-likeness shall be the power to conquer sense in those places it shall dock.

The proposal of this structure bets in a radical ability of relationship with the assets of the cities it shall visit, thus being possible to establish a very close contact with its daily life. For instance, when installed in a significant plaza, when embracing a statue or when touching a symbol,  Oca-Mobi shall perform as a metalanguage of its presence, located between a  culture- housing place and the action of art per se. It is expected that the project shall suffer scale, form and even surface changes, according to the place where it shall be implemented. Canvas shading panels, acting as brise-soleils shall be made by selected groups of the local community and shall be posted to the external structure, thus creating a kind of skin to Oca, reacting to the place it comes, always changing its external look.

STRUCTURE

As the sea scum and the soap bubbles that have fascinated Buckminster Fuller, as fishing nets and baskets of our handicraft, as birds’ nests and the indigenous oca, the structure of this project is formed by lines. Thin parts that, when woven, form the solid and fascinating shelter.  A structure that pays tribute to lightness and movement.

From metallic tubular structures, so common in the landscape of cities, we have developed a repertoire able to produce differentiated spaces, as of the simplest of elements, which can be rented, following the same logic of events.

As a web, a fabric, an igloo, the structure is erected by layers, in an ascending movement, in order to render its assembly an attractive part of the process of implementation in the cities it shall visit.

SPACE

Oca-Mobi is not a “white cube”. Its mobile and itinerant nature dresses it with a powerful proper sense, impossible to be ignored. The works it shall host shall be housed by a space with character, and from this contact, both shall be strengthened.

During the day, the space is characterized by brightness going through the white canvas of its covering and by shades that are projected by the external trusses in this semi-opaque canvas. At night, the brightness of the day gives way to hundreds of small light spots located in the knots of the metallic structure, with polychromatic LED lights.

The course in space is conditioned to the design of each exhibition, by modular panels. Accesses follow the internal use intended for each event, being able to be oriented through one or multiple entrances, since all voids in structure are closed by retractile wooden panels.

FORMAT

This pavilion dialogues with the history of Brazilian architecture in order to find its genetic matrix. Its format is therefore simple to mention the memoire of the indigenous language per force of our modern movement.

MEDIA

All structure surrounding Oca-Mobi is projected to receive partners and supporters of the project, being by complimentary advertising boxes, or by the use of the perimetral structure by the media.

ASSEMBLY

The pavilion’s assembly shall last for about 15 days and it shall be made in three assembling stages, as follows:

1. Marking of land; Placement of metallic Plates to set the bases; fastening of 06  guiding arches and sustentation of superior ring; commencement of placement of  ascending metallic  rods; fixation of metallic rods in the superior arch and locking of the structure; withdrawal of guiding arches; placement of finishing parts of the  skylight.

2. Placement of ascending gemma of crystal canvas; placement of white canvas gemma; fixation of the canvas that covers the skylight in the superior ring; fixation of ascending tussed panels.

3. Setting of  power panel ; installation of circuits for cabling; composition of circuits with LED ends; fixation of circuits in each spiral gemma up to the superior arch; fixation of bases to mount the fitting metallic structure of internal panels; fixation of wooden panels in this structure. General finishings. The disassembly of the main structure of  Oca-Mobi is estimated to be performed in up to 1 week.

VOLUME

Whereas all metallic structure can be rented, the final volume transported shall be the sumo f the following parts: Canvases, closing door panels, internal division panels, electric and furniture fixings, adding up to a volume equivalent to approximately  5  20” Containers.

COST

The cost estimated for structures of such temporary nature is approximately R$ 450-600/ sqm, without operational costs such as transportation and storage.
