Many different kinds of waterfowl are able to share the same habitat without undue competition by utilizing varying food resources. Dabbling ducks like Teal and Pintail glean food from the water surface but by upending, are also able to obtain plaints and small animals from the button. Swans make use of their long necks to secure submerged plants. Diving ducks exploit deeper water to feed on small crustaceans. Shovelers and other surface feeding ducks eat small plants and animals by sweeping the water surface. Greater Flamingos are bottom feeders in shallow water, while the Lesser Flamingo is primarily a surface feeder and being able to swim well is able to obtain food far from the shore…
